Three crews of Motorsport Italia at the start of Rally Turkey Marmaris 2019 WRC

From 12th to 15th September in Turkey will take place the next stage of the World Rally Championship (WRC), where Motorsport Italia will assist the italians Fabio Andolfi and Emanuele Inglesi, the brasilian duo Paulo Nobre and Gabriel Morales, and the portuguese Diogo Salvi with his co-driver Hugo Magalhaes.

Rome, 12th September 2019.

The 2019 edition of Rally Turkey, eleventh event of WRC, will start officially in Marmaris town with a Special Stage scheduled for tomorrow night at 8.00 pm.

At the start three crews of Motorsport Italia competing in WRC2 will drive Skoda Fabia R5 cars on Pirelli tyres.

The pair Fabio Andolfi and Emanuele Inglesi will race with the number 42, in Aci Team Italia colours.

Andolfi, will try to bounce back with Emanuele Inglesi after the unlucky away game in Germany that has cost Simone Scattolin a break from rallying.

A new WRC challenge for the brasilian duo formed by Paulo Nobre and Gabriel Morales, race number: 45. A well-established relationship, between the driver from Sao Paulo and the italian company led by Max Rendina, which this year made them protagonists even in ERC. Diogo Salvi, will be back in the Skoda Fabia R5 cockpit with the co-driver Hugo Magalahes, race number 47. He finished the 2018 edition of Rally Turkey at the 8th place in overall WRC2 standing.
The team of Motorsport Italia, during this turkish competition, will involve at full pace 25 people amongst them engineers, mechanics, chef, press officer and the other reliable members of the staff.

Bruno De Pianto, team manager, claimed: โ€œRally Turkey will end on 15th September after 17 Special Stages for a total of over 318 km of timed sections.
Let me begin by thanking Motorsport Italia team for their hard work over the last weeks in ensuring Fabio Andolfi’s participation! In Turkey the rally will be really hard for both the pre-rally hard work of our team and for the physical effort of drivers.
I would like to officially welcome Emanuele Inglesi coming back with us after almost a year absence from WRC, and sending to Simone Scattolin a great big hug. He will follow from Italy the Rally Turkey because of the crash occured in Germany!โ€

The stars aligned for Petter in Wales last week,as former team-members joined him at Wales Rally GB.

Petter lands the high five with another Wales Rally GB win

The Solberg story headlines at Wales Rally GB (again)
Emotional farewell as Petter signs off with a WRC 2 victory
Petter: โ€œThatโ€™s a proper way to say goodbye.โ€
Oliver fastest on his first ever WRC outing
Stunning Saturday morning speed, Oliver beats everybody on just his third WRC stage
Mixed emotions doesnโ€™t come close for the Solberg family following another thrilling week in Wales.

Petter and Oliver drove their Volkswagen Polo GTI R5s on one of the seasonโ€™s most complicated and competitive rallies. Both have a story to tellโ€ฆ

For Petter, a four-time Wales Rally GB winner, the last week has been an astonishingly rapid run down memory lane. Itโ€™s seven years since the triple world champion competed in Britain, but it felt like yesterday when he delivered the dream: a fifth Wales Rally GB win โ€“ admittedly, this one was in the WRC 2 category.

This time, even Hollywood was almost lost for words.

โ€œIncredible,โ€ he said. โ€œUnbelievable. Since we planned the Farewell Tour at the start of the year, I wanted to come here and wanted to do GB. It was different this time with Oliver driving as well. The emotions were a little bit more complicated, but this resultโ€ฆ what can I say?

โ€œThe comeback starts now!โ€

Petter admitted returning to one of the seasonโ€™s most complicated rallies was not straightforward.

โ€œI didnโ€™t underestimate how tough this would be? But maybe I forgot a little bit about how tough it was! This rally is one of the hardest in the championship and it always was โ€“ thatโ€™s one of the things that make it so special when you are having the success here.

โ€œThe days are long and the roads are so, so difficult to read and take confidence from, but when you get it right, itโ€™s the best feeling in the world.โ€

More on that comeback?

โ€œDo you think I should? Maybe? No, weโ€™re working on Oliverโ€™s plan now. Oliver is the future for the Solberg story, mine is a little bit in the history now. Honestly, itโ€™s been really nice, fun and a lot of emotions coming to this rally. I love this place and these people, so to share my last proper WRC round with Wales was so special for me and Phil.

โ€œThat was the proper way to say goodbye.โ€

Back to the futureโ€ฆ

In the last week, Oliverโ€™s World Rally Championship dream got real.

After an already insanely successful rookie season of four-wheel drive rallying, where Oliver has become the youngest ever European Rally Championship event winner and taken America by storm with Subaru Motorsports USA, Wales Rally GB was the next mountain to climb.

Predictably, Oliver made short work of his big moment. He was fastest of all the R5 cars (including WRC 2 Pro and WRC 2) on just his third stage in the World Rally Championship.

Unfortunately, a misted-up windscreen spoiled SS1, while a smashed wheel rim on the second test ruled him out Friday. After a day by the north Wales seaside, Oliver was very much back in business on Saturday morning.

Thatโ€™s when the fastest times started. Nobody drove an R5 car faster than Oliver through Dyfi and Myherin. Nobody.

Unfortunately, just as the weekend was starting to fly, Sweet Lamb turned sour and Saturday was done.

โ€œThe car stopped,โ€ said Oliver. โ€œWe donโ€™t know why. We checked everything, but it wasnโ€™t possible to continue. We came to service and the team made lots of investigations, worked on the car and then I could come back again on Sunday.

โ€œOf course, it was disappointing that we couldnโ€™t take the experience we wanted from all of the stages, but the thing I wanted to have a look at for myself was the speed.

โ€œI have been asking myself for the whole time: โ€œWhere am I for the speed? How will I compare with the other guys?

โ€œWhen I came to the first stage on Saturday morning, it was really difficult. I had nothing to win and a lot to lose if I crashed. Honestly, we drove at around 95 per cent and the times were good.โ€

Good? Try sensational.

Through the 26-kilometre Dyfi test, Oliver was 9.1 seconds faster than any other R5 cars. And 24.7s up on Papa.

โ€œThat was good,โ€ he said. โ€œI enjoyed that one โ€“ the grip was really good in places and this took me by surprise. I was braking early many times.โ€

In Myherin, Oliver could only manage fastest by 3.1s and this time Petter was just eight down.

After that, Saturday went south, but Sunday demonstrated more speed and more potential before he rolled in the penultimate test.

Oliver said: โ€œThe end of the event wasnโ€™t like we wanted, but the dream really has come true for me to be here. Wales and the World Rally Championship wasnโ€™t like my Papa told me it would be. It was evenbetter.โ€

AND NOW FOR MOREโ€ฆ AL-ATTIYAH CONSIDERING FULL ERC CAMPAIGN

Nasser Al-Attiyah celebrated his sixth Cyprus Rally victory on Sunday evening by revealing that heโ€™s considering a full FIA European Rally Championship campaign in 2020.

Al-Attiyah, from Qatar, has enjoyed a long run of success in stage and cross-country rallying at both regional and international level.

Heโ€™s yet to tackle more than a handful of ERC events in any one season but that could change next year.

โ€œWe are thinking to the European [championship] next year, we will sit with the team and we will see,โ€ said Al-Attiyah, who drove an Autotek Motorsport-run Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 to victory in Cyprus.

โ€œTo compete in different race [is the reason], we know everybody, the atmosphere in this European championship is really great, a family, and a lot of media. And when you win you win the race.โ€

In addition to a possible ERC bid, Al-Attiyah also confirmed he hopes to represent Qatar in skeet shooting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
