Greg Rust and Aaron Noonan have been confirmed as the hosts of both the free-to-air broadcast and live stream for the TCR Australia Series.

Available on Australian free-to-air broadcaster SBS in HD, the live stream will also be available globally via the TCR Australia and Shannons Nationals website.

Rust and Noonan will also act as co-hosts of the Shannons Nationals live stream.

The duo will be joined by Emma Notarfranceso and Cameron van den Dungen in pit lane throughout the Shannons Nationals in 2019.

Both Noonan and Rust are no strangers to broadcasting, having commentated and hosted a significant number of motor sport events in recent years and share a passion for the sport that is evident in the dedication to their craft.

The duo will make their debut at the opening round of the Shannons Nationals and TCR Australia Series at Sydney Motorsport Park on 18-19 May.

SBS’s coverage of TCR will begin on Saturday, 18 May at 2pm, with one race to feature on the one hour show on Saturday, while Sunday’s broadcast will showcase two back-to-back races and run from 1pm – 3pm on 19 May.

The Shannons Nationals live stream will be available to view on thenationals.com.au and tcraustralia.com, with a stream all day on both Saturday and Sunday.

QUOTES
Greg Rust
TCR Australia commentator

“I had so much fun working on the Shannons National’s live stream last year. It was just good to do something fresh. With TCR joining the line-up and coverage on SBS 2019 is going to be a ripper year,” said Greg Rust.

“It kind of takes me back to where it all began. My first proper TV job was with SBS in the mid ’90s. And it has a little of a Super Touring vibe about it. I loved working on that series too. Different makes, drivers and teams from various motor sport backgrounds and a brilliant broadcast team. Plus I’ve seen TCR up close in Singapore when I’ve covered the F1 race there – it’s fantastic that it’s coming down under.

“The whole Shannons team’s passion will permeate the coverage of the Shannons Nationals. The producers did a brilliant job last year breaking the mould on various things which really enhanced the broadcast and the Shannons National’s categories all benefited from that. I love working ‘the lane’ and that won’t change on race day but I’m really excited to join my buddy ‘Noonz’ in commentary for TCR. His preparation is second to none and we both plan to make this fun. That’s my mantra these days.”

Aaron Noonan
TCR Australia commentator

“I’m really excited about the TCR Australia Series and bringing the action to fans around the country, mainly due to the simple fact it’s an all-new series that is absolutely impossible to predict – there’s no form guide or runs on the board yet,” said Aaron Noonan.

“There’s a whole fleet of cars brand new to the country, a range of well-credentialed drivers that will be adapting to them and a great blend of makes and models – it’s those elements that see me keen to get to Sydney for Round 1 and see who stacks up where.

“It’s sadly often overlooked, but Australia has a great history of small capacity touring car racing. From the Minis and Cortinas winning outright at Bathurst in the ‘60s to the Corollas that dominated Group A class racing in the ‘80s and early ‘90s and the amazing era of Super Touring in the mid to late ‘90s, TCR Australia is the next chapter of that history.

“The opportunity to link up with ‘Rusty’ to call the action on SBS is one that has taken nearly 20 years to come together. We have rarely worked on air together given we were on different broadcasters but on the very rare occasions where we have worked together, we’ve had a ball. And that’s what we’ll be doing with TCR and the Shannons Nationals this year. Regular TV commentary has been absent from my working world for a few years, so I’m energised and eager to get back into the commentary box and call the TCR Australia action live on SBS and for the live stream.”

Michael Smith
Director, Shannons Nationals

“We are thrilled to welcome back ‘Rusty’ to the Shannons Nationals to be joined by Aaron in the co-host chair after a successful 2018 season saw the Shannons achieve its highest ever audience. We’ve got no doubt there will be even more interest in 2019, with a host of exciting categories, including the debut of the TCR Australia Series,” said Michael Smith.

“Both ‘Noonz’ and ‘Rusty’ are talented broadcasters in their own right – we know together they will make a formidable and entertaining team, along with a highly skilled team working alongside them both on and off camera.”

Matt Braid
Director, Australian Racing Group

“The countdown to the debut of TCR Australia is well and truly on. After a successful test day on Monday at Winton, we are absolutely excited about what is to come,” said Matt Braid.

“There’s no doubt we have a great group of teams, drivers and cars all eager to get on track and show what they can do.

“Having ‘Rusty’ and ‘Noonz’ on board in 2019 as the faces of our broadcast on SBS and the live stream is an exciting development for the category and we know that these two experienced broadcasters will do an excellent job calling all the action, both on the track and in the pits.”

NEW CO-DRIVER ON BOARD AS SESKS 🇱🇻 PREPARES FOR SECOND ERC JUNIOR PRIZE DRIVE 🇮🇹🌎

Mārtiņš Sesks is gearing up for his second prize drive in the FIA European Rally Championship.

Latvian teenager Sesks won two ERC starts in a Motorsport Italia-run ŠKODA Fabia R5 for claiming the Pirelli-supported ERC3 Junior title in 2018.

After finishing a fine third overall and second in ERC1 Junior on his R5 debut on the gravel-based Rally Liepāja in late May, Sesks is preparing to tackle his first asphalt event in a top-of-the-range R5.

Ahead of next week’s Rally di Roma Capitale, Sesks, who will compete under the LMT Autosporta Akadēmija banner, said: “There is everything on this rally from nice curvy roads to small roads that in a road car it’s not possible to drive it through normally and we are flying through at more than 140kph. It’s really extreme but that means you need to keep focused all the time on your pacenotes and your driving needs to be perfect.

“I haven’t done much Tarmac this year but I hope to be back in shape after my test on Tuesday. I am comfortable on Tarmac and I hope I will be in the R5 for the first time.”

Rally di Roma Capitale is the first event where Sesks will count on new co-driver Uldis Briedis, who has replaced Krišjānis Caune.

“My coach will be my co-driver and we will see how it goes for us,” said Sesks, the ERC3 Junior winner in Rome last season. “He taught me the pacenotes I am driving to now so from the pacenotes understanding side there should be no problem because we are thinking equally. I hope it will be good.”

🇬🇧 Our ŠKODA Fabia R5 beast is ready for offical Tuesday test! 😎
And different from FIA Junior WRC , where usually we get Nr.76 😂 We will have Nr.5 🤘

Campedelli chosen to give new Fiesta R5 Evo ERC debut

*Rapid Italian gets M-Sport’s latest challenger for Rally di Roma Capitale *Previous winner has pace to fight for another victory against European elite *Campedelli: “I’m so excited, it’s a big chance that M-Sport gives me”

Simone Campedelli will have the honour of giving M-Sport’s all-new Ford Fiesta R5 its FIA European Rally Championship debut when he lines up for Rally di Roma Capitale from 19-21 July.

Winner of the event in 2017, the Italian competes under the Orange 1 M-Sport Rally Team banner in the Italian championship (CIR). Having won the famous Targa Florio in Sicily back in May in M-Sport’s previous-generation Fiesta R5, Campedelli will use its replacement to chase ERC and CIR points on the asphalt-only Rally di Roma Capitale and will be among the contenders for victory.

“I’m so excited,” said Campedelli, 32. “It’s a big chance and Iam so appreciative that M-Sport gives me this opportunity. We’ve created a good partnership with them, and they really believe in us and they really believe in the Italian market. They are close to me and they trust in me. For example, we could have continued with the older version of the car, but they said ‘no, we are building a new car for you’. I want to say thank you to Malcolm Wilson and Maciej Woda for putting the effort in.”

Campedelli is due to get his first turn behind the wheel of his new Fiesta R5 during a private test on Monday before he takes part in the official test on Tuesday.

“I hope to find immediately the right confidence with the car,” said Campedelli. “From Malcolm’s side he told me straight, ‘Simone, the car is quicker, of that we have no doubt, you must use it, we are confident you can make a strong performance and we would really like to push you in the new car.’”

Of his target for Italy’s ERC counter, Campedelli said: “It’s a rally I like, and we can be quick, but we also have a new car and we must remember this. For sure it will be a hard challenge against the ERC drivers who can make an impressive pace with a really low knowledge of the stages and know how to fight in all kinds of conditions. But we also have to take care about the Italian championship.”

Based on the Ford Fiesta ST-Line and powered by an EcoBoost engine, M‑Sport has worked closely with the Ford Motor Company to “ensure the new Fiesta R5 provides a big step forward in terms of pace and performance”, according to the car builder.

Meanwhile, Rally di Roma Capitale, which signals the start of the second half of the 2019 ERC season, begins at the famousCastel Sant’Angelo in central Rome at 19h00 CET on Friday 19 July with the finish scheduled for Rome’s seaside retreat of Ostia on the evening of Sunday 21 July. In between are 16 stages over a competitive distance of 203.40 kilometres.

Spectacle and great figures for the 7th Rally di Roma Capitale

A high-level rally with varied and complete stages. An unrivalled setting from Castel Sant’ Angelo to Ostia Lido with the closing show of the “Arena ACI Roma”. Rendina: “A strong team that wants to grow thanks to ACI and the Municipality. Maurizio Battista Testimonial of the event

Rome July 10th, 2019. The details of the 7th Rally di Roma Capitale, the event that will be the 5th round of the European Championship and Italian Rally from July 17th to 21st , have been unveiled. This sporting event will involve the whole area of the Capital but also the province of Frosinone and Ostia. Promotion of the territory through the spectacle of rally that is close to people. Everyone will be involved either along the roads of the rally or through the intense programme of TV, radio and web coverages to broadcast every moment of the electrifying weekend in the Rome area. This is the essence of the event devised by 2014 Rally Production World Champion Max Rendina, that will have its headquarters in Fiuggi, will start from the heart of Rome, Castel Sant’Angelo before moving to the stages that will take place in Ciociaria for two motorsport days that will reach their conclusion with the final show of the “Arena ACI Roma” that is a double challenge on the stage in front of the sea.
Sixteen stages for a total of 203,40 competitive Km on a total liason of 849,72 Km split in two days: day one will feature some very technical stages on twisty roads, while technical perfection will make the difference in the more flowing stages on day two.

A packed “Giuseppe Spizzuoco” room at the Automobile Club d’Italia headquarters has welcomed the introductory meeting to the rally Roma Capitale in the presence of Max Rendina and Motorsport Italia managers, Automobile Club D’Italia’s President Angelo Sticchi Damiani, ACI Sport’s General Director Marco Rogano, Rally ACI Sport Commission’s President Daniele Settimo, Rome Municipality Sports Depute Andrea Pesce, Giuliana Di Pillo, Pico’s Major Ornella Carnevale, delegates from the areas staging the Rally and the Testimonial of Rally di Roma Capitale Maurizio Battista.

Max Rendina Motorsport Italia: -“Thank you. This year we organized an even bigger event and, thanks to the partnership with the Municipality and ACI Rome, we could organize a better stage in Ostia. A staff of more than 1000 people plus 200 volunteers will work hard on this rally. This is the second most important race in Italy and we want to grow. In Ostia, a big event in the event will involve a test drive for manufacturers, karting races with guest stars like Giancarlo Fisichella and Emanuele Pirro. The exhibition of WRC+ cars from the WRC rally scenes and the Police’s Lamborghini, our testimonial and a lot of exciting appointments are on the menu of the event. We devoted our full commitment to this rally as always and we hope it will be appreciated”-.

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, Automobile Club d’Italia’s President: -“The Rally di Roma Capitale won a tough challenge especially due to the difficulties connected to the size of a city like Rome. The success of Rendina lays in the big presence. As the Federation, we try to showcase our talents in these International events. We brought back sports among the main aspects of ACI, the Federation that has a long and prestigious history and that nowadays organizes directly a Formula 1 Grand Prix and a World Rally Championship’s round. The Federation ACI shows its value also through the important confirmations obtained internationally. Automobile Club d’Italia got to the heart of the sport, but its activity goes beyond sport. This has to be clear. A big thanks to events like the Rally organized by Motorsport Italia that brought an international event to our Capital”-.

Andrea Pece, Sports Department of the Municipality: -“We feel like members of a big family, as citizens and fans. The city is close to the event as the whole territory and this is quite a clear synergy”-.

Marco Rogano ACI Sport SpA General Director: -“The Rally di Roma Capitale, an event devised by the farsighted idea of Rendina, grew and is an important appointment. It involves people and takes place among the people that can enjoy this spectacle from a close perspective. A European Championship is an important event and this is confirmed by the figures shown, the high-level staff and its complexity. Such an efficient organization deserves to be highly successful”-.

Daniele Settimo Rally Commission President:-“The rally di Roma Capitale is a big event and the European setting raises further its profile. I personally know that stages and, due to their high technical level, they could be part of a World Rally Championship round. Our Federation is proud of this organization”-.

Ornella Carnevale Pico’s Major: “ Our Municipality suits particularly the rally. We have been living and organizing rally rounds for a long time. We are great at this and our roads are already set up thanks to our associations. Important interventions to increase safety and spectacle have taken place. We are very fond of our rally and kept its name within the important context of the Rally di Roma Capitale. We are ready to welcome all the fans that will join us here”-.

Giuliana Di Pillo President of the X Municipio Roma: “This is a public event. That is how we defined the Rally di Roma Capitale, an event that brings a lot of people to our territory. The Arena ACI Roma will be in Ostia’s center among the people. We wished this strongly and I personally fought for this event in our city. I am happy because this is going the first time of this new configuration. We are waiting for a lot of people. Ostia is ready to welcome all the rally fans”-.

Gianluca Marotta, Race Director: “Spectacle and promotion of the territory are two important aspects combined in the organization by Motorsport Italia. Safety will be paramount and several staffs like technicians, race directors and people working at the event devoted the highest care to this aspect. This is quite a complex machinery featuring high numbers. This is why we are also grateful to all the involved Armed Forces, and particularly the Questura di Roma e Frosinone, Polizia Stradale di Roma e Frosinone, Carabinieri and the Polizia Municipale di Roma Capitale”-.

Videos and pictures of the presentation are available. All information can be found at www.rallydiromacapitale.it and on the renewed app rallydiromacapitale that is available through google play and apple store.
