Kelly Racing is pleased to confirm that Molly Taylor will drive one of the team’s Subaru WRX STI’s in the 2019 TCR Australia Series.

The 30 year old, who currently competes for the factory-backed Subaru do Motorsport team in the Australian Rally Championship, is the first of four drivers confirmed for Kelly Racing’s TCR efforts, which includes two Subarus and two Opel Astras.

Taylor’s drive in the TCR Series will mark her first full attack on a circuit racing championship having carved her career in the Australian and international rally scene.

She will enter TCR Australia with a slight advantage, though, having tested one of the Subaru WRX STI TCR cars late last year at the Cremona Circuit, near Milan.

The daughter of four time Australian Rally Champion co-driver Coral Taylor, Molly found her skills were suited to the driver’s seat, competing overseas for five years before returning to Australian shores, winning the 2016 CAMS Australian Rally Championship. Not only was Molly the first female to achieve this feat, she was also the youngest to ever win the prestigious title.

Off the track, Taylor is the CAMS delegate to the FIA Rally Commission and an ambassador for the female motorsport initiative Dare to be Different, among other community and charity organisations.

Due to Molly’s existing commitments with Subaru in the ARC, she will be unavailable for the final two TCR Australia Series rounds at Sandown and The Bend due to date clashes. A replacement driver for those events will be confirmed in due course.

The Kelly Racing Subaru WRX STIs have arrived in Australia, and the team will test at Winton on Monday, May 6 ahead of the opening round of the TCR Australia Series at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 17-19.

Every TCR Australia race across the seven rounds will be broadcast live, free and in HD on SBS. The rounds will also be live streamed, available on the TCR Australia website.

Tickets for the opening event at Sydney Motorsport Park are now on sale via the Shannons Nationals website. CLICK HERE to secure your tickets and see Australian touring car history being made …

QUOTES
Molly Taylor
Driver, Kelly Racing Subaru WRX STI TCR

“This is an exciting opportunity for me and I’m extremely grateful to Kelly Racing for giving me the chance to make my circuit racing debut this year,” said Molly Taylor.

“Rallying has always been my passion. I grew up around it and it continues to consume me everyday, but I’m always up for a new challenge.

“TCR is something that I have been interested in, particularly when the Subaru WRX STI was introduced to the series.

“While I was in Europe late last year, I had the opportunity to drive one of the Subaru TCR cars and it was an awesome experience. I know I’ll have a lot to learn, switching my rally style to circuit racing, but having the support of the Kelly Racing team is going to be a huge advantage. The team is very experienced in touring car racing and I know they are going to get the best out of me.

“I really can’t wait to get into the WRX again for the test and to be as prepared as I can for the first round at Sydney Motorsport Park.”

VERY excited to take on this new challenge and grateful to Kelly Racing for the amazing opportunity! I’ll be competing in the first five rounds of the TCR Australia series (as the last two clash with the Australian Rally Championship calendar). It’s going to be a busy year and a huge learning curve 💪 #kellyracing #tcr #tcraustralia

Todd Kelly
Owner, Kelly Racing

“Kelly Racing is very excited to confirm that Molly will drive one of our Subarus in the TCR Australia Series,” said Todd Kelly.

“You don’t win the Australian Rally Championship by accident. Molly is a serious motorsport talent and we are looking forward to transferring her rally speed into circuit racing speed.

“She has already tested one of the cars, so that is a huge bonus for us. It will give all of us a slight advantage as we head into our first test and the opening round in Sydney.”

Hyundai Motorsport adjusts driver line-up for Rally de Portugal

Hyundai Motorsport has revealed a revised three-car line-up for Rally de Portugal, round seven of the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC)
Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul and Dani Sordo/Carlos del Barrio will be joined by Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena for the gravel rally
The line-up reflects Hyundai Motorsport’s ambitions in an increasingly close and competitively fought manufacturers’ championship.

Alzenau, Germany

May 21, 2019 – Hyundai Motorsport has revealed a change to its crew line-up for the forthcoming Rally de Portugal, round seven of the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

Following a competitive performance at Rally Chile, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena will take part in Portugal alongside the previously announced Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul and Dani Sordo/Carlos del Barrio.

Loeb took third place in Chile, securing his first-ever podium in Hyundai Motorsport colours, and finishing as the highest placed Hyundai Motorsport crew. The result helped the team to retain its lead of the manufacturers’ championship after Neuville’s rally retirement.

Hyundai Motorsport holds a 29-point advantage in the title chase as the season approaches its halfway mark. The team has vowed to raise its game against tough opposition in another closely contested championship battle.

Andreas Mikkelsen and Anders Jæger-Amland will return to the i20 Coupe WRC for Rally Italia Sardegna next month.

Team Director Andrea Adamo said: “This decision was not taken lightly. We need to move forward as a team and make the most effective use of our versatile crew line-up. Sébastien and Daniel had a competitive event in Chile, and have found a good feeling in the car on gravel. We felt their contribution would allow us to increase our points-scoring potential in Portugal. We are trying hard to find a way to get Andreas’s confidence back and we are sure he will approach his next event, Sardinia, in the same way he was able to in Argentina. When you have a line-up like ours and look at the results from Chile, it’s necessary to react quickly.”

Sébastien Loeb said: “I had a great feeling with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC in Chile, which was shown by our podium finish. I am pleased to have the chance to build some important momentum by taking part in Rally de Portugal. This is an unexpected decision but I am feeling in a positive frame of mind and determined to get another strong result for the team.”

Mechanical issues hold back Kelly Racing TCR performance

Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW (19 May, 2019) Unfortunately mechanical dramas hampered Kelly Racing’s final TCR Australia race for the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park. The team was able to improve the cars from yesterday and fix the gearbox issues that held up André Heimgartner and Molly Taylor’s Subarus. All four cars were able to complete Race Two with good pace.

In the final race André was able to get into second position in the #777 Kangan Institute Subaru WRX, however a suspension failure during a close battle with Dylan O’Keefe put the car off the track at the second to last corner and out of the race.

Chelsea Angelo went off the track at the same spot in her #37 Dare Iced Coffee Holden Astra due to a steering failure and also didn’t complete the final race.

Alex Rullo’s #62 Castrol Racing Astra had a good chassis balance and was quick in the corners, however it really struggled with straight-line grunt. Molly Taylor’s Castrol Subaru WRX also improved over the day, but suffered a puncture during the final race.

It’s still early days with these TCR cars and team is looking forward to improving them in the coming weeks and hitting the track at Philip Island for round two.

Kelly Racing Team quotes

André Heimgartner, #777 Kangan Institute Subaru WRX

“It was a bit unfortunate we managed to have some good tyre strategy and made some good places up in the races before and we were on for a good result in race three, we had a faster car than Dylan so I think we would have eventually got past but it wasn’t to be today.”

“We had a suspension failure at the second to last corner and that was that so disappointing to say the least after all of the gearbox drama we had to finally be able to get somewhere and then have this, it’s pretty annoying but we’ll regroup and see what we can improve for next round.”

Molly Taylor, #6 Castrol Racing Subaru WRX

“I felt like I made a lot of progress today in the two races, the pace was better than where we ended up so I just need to now work on my overtaking skills to make the most of that. We had that plan going into race two and unfortunately we got a puncture early on and a few issues with the front end that we need to look at once we get back to the workshop.”

“Overall though it was a great weekend, I really enjoyed it all. The team was fantastic to work with and so supportive of me. I just want to thank Nikki too who was my engineer, it was her first time solo engineering a car and she did a great job. Looking forward to the next race at Philip Island.”
