PAUL RICARD 5-6/05/2018

The dawn of the TCR Europe is located in France in the Paul Ricard circuit in the name of a climate that alternates between rain and sun. In these conditions twenty-five drivers met for the first challenge of the season.
Saturday’s qualifying saw Dušan Borković and Mikel Azcona making the best of times, while the expected Stefano Comini of the Race Republic team had technical problems right from the Friday practice session when a faulty fuel pressure of his Subaru WRX STI TCR stopped him after a few rounds track.
In the official qualifying session things did not go better and Comini had to start from last position.
In the Race1, the Serbian pilot Dušan Borković has maintained the first position for all 23 minutes of the race followed by Dániel Nagy aboard Hyundai i30 N TCR, while Mikel Azcona came third with its Cupra TCR. Comini was the author of a very aggressive start and right from the first curves immediately showed his tenacity by recovering different positions.
Once arrived in the fifteenth position, the swiss driver was rammed by the german pilot Piro, significantly
damaging the car. The contact has caused the loss of some positions for the ticinese pilot who continued dueling competition with the opponents Andrea Larini and Giacomo Altoè to finish the race in twentieth position.
Our bi-champion, however, do not lose heart, leaving Subaru in the hands of the mechanics, meets the team and reminds us that this is only the first day of a long season that certainly will reserve many surprises.
In Race 2 the serbian driver wins again, starting from the tenth inverted grid position, followed by Jean-Karl Vernay and Dániel Nagy. Comini’s incredible comeback, from the back of the grid in the twenty-fifth position,
finds himself fighting for the sixth position after the suspension of the race by accident. Finished in tenth position, he earns the first season point and in a short interview during the break, he declares:
“The car is really amazing in the wet and after having fighted with many drivers in Race 1, I’m really happy to be
here in the points area. I thank Top Run and Race Republic that allowed me to fight again this year.”
