DMACK Launches Upgraded Tyres For Eighth WRC Season

DMACK begins its eighth season in the FIA World Rally Championship next week with one of the sport’s most iconic events – Rallye Monte Carlo. Once again DMACK and Michelin are the only two tyre manufacturers who have homologated products for tyre lists 1 and 2 – allowing them to supply both WRC and R5 cars.

With a completely new range of upgraded tyres for the 2018 season, DMACK is aiming to build on last year’s success where it scored stage wins on eight events and clinched its first overall victory.

2017 Performance
Last season DMACK took its first-ever WRC asphalt stage victory on Monte Carlo and Elfyn Evans eventually stormed to the top of the time sheets on three stages: SS10 and 12 using studded winter tyres and SS13 with the extra soft compound asphalt tyre. He finished sixth overall to set DMACK’s best result on the event.

Tyre Overview
Every DMACK tyre for 2018 features performance upgrades and four different tyres are permitted next week. The standard asphalt tyre DMT-RC22 is available in two compounds, soft S6+ and extra soft XS6+ – this is the only event where the extra soft compound is used. The DMT-RC22 benefits from an improved construction this year.

The DMT-ICE2 winter tyre features an upgraded compound and comes in un-studded and studded forms, the studded version is equipped with 200 metal pins with 2mm protrusion. This is also the only asphalt event of the season where a wet pattern tyre is not permitted.

The new DMT-ICE2 is already a winner, taking overall victory on the Rallye Hivernal de Devoluy with Olivier Burri on its competitive debut last month.

Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: “We made huge strides forward on this event in 2017, topping the timesheets on Tarmac for the first time. We are constantly progressing technically and have introduced upgrades to improve the performance again for 2018 across every single tyre. It’s a tough event but we demonstrated last year that our products have the ability to win stages on both snow and dry asphalt.”
