A lot of contenders to the victory in an edition that announces to be nice and tight from lights to flag.

9 April 2015

Sanremo 9 April 2015 – Paolo Andreucci, Peugeot 208 T16 R5, Giandomenico Basso, Ford Fiesta R5 powered by Gpl, Sebastien Chardonnet, Ford Fiesta R5, Alessandro Perico, Peugeot 208 T16 R5, Umberto Scandola, Skoda Fabia Super 2000. These are the main candidates to the victory of the 62nd Rallye Sanremo, second round of the Italian Rally Championship, race organized by the Automobile Club Sanremo to start tomorrow Friday 10 April at 12 from Piazza Adolfo Rava nin the center of the splendid town of Liguria. Several drivers can aim to the victory of an edition that announces to be particularly tight.

PAOLO ANDREUCCI: “Sanremo has a special charm, it is a rally that attracts a lot of people. This rally helped writing the history of the sport. A difficult race. The nightly Ronde of 44km can be decisive for the classification. An inconvenience or an error early on and you risk to pay it for a lot of kilometers of the stage”.

GIANDOMENICO BASSO: “I am really disappointed on what happened in Ciocco, I will try to counter charge in Sanremo running on top since the first stage. We run a specific test to prepare this round at best, focusing mainly on setting up the car to get the most out of the available Michelin tires”.

UMBERTO SCANDOLA: “As in every race, the strategy is only one: start flat out and give 100% from the first to the last stage. Last year we obtained an interesting victory here at the Rallye of Sanremo. This year competition will be even tougher but we are all set to face it”.

ALESSANDRO PERICO: “The victory at Ciocco came out of the blue, but clearly my objective is to keep the pace of the front runners and aim at the podium. I know very well this race and I have always been quick around here, therefore the objective does not change”.

SEBASTIEN CHARDONNET: “I am particularly happy on taking part to the Italian Rally Championship, a series that I believe is top class. There are a lot of strong drivers and top cars therefore things are going to be tough. I make my debut in this rally and the feeling I got from today’s shakedown is positive.”.

These five will certainly not be the only ones able to aim high. At least three more drivers, Nicola Caldani, in art #NC3, Ciavarella, both Ford Fiesta R5, and Stefano Albertini Peugeot 208 T16 R5, will certainly have their say for the podium. It will then be worth keeping an eye on the race of Gabriele Noberasco, on Ford Fiesta R5. The fight for the Italian Production championship will be quite interesting too, and will involve the four Renault Clio R3T driven by the leader Giacomo Scattolon, by Fabrizio Andolfi Jr, who leads the Trofeo Renault Clio R3T, by Luca Rossetti and by Ivan Ferrarotti. In the Italian Rally Junior a lot of drivers will challenge each other in this occasion, such as classification leader Giuseppe Testa and then Michele Tassone, Nicolò Marchioro, Damiano De Tommaso, Tobia Gheno, Alberto Rossi, and Jacopo Trevisani all on Peugeot 208 R2 and then Giorgio Bernardi, who is the current leader of theTwingo R2 Top Trophy, Luca Panzani, Gianandrea Pisani and Corinne Federighi all on Renault Twingo R2. The rally of Sanremo will also be the second round of the Suzuki Rally Trophy/ACI R1 Trophy that is currently led by Claudio Gubertini, from Alessandro Uliana to Paolo Amorisco.

The start of the rally is scheduled for tomorrow at local 12,00 from Sanremo’s Piazzale Adolfo Rava, right opposite the former train station. Six stages will then cover 103,42 Km:”San Romolo”(14,34km) at local 12:29 and 15:06; “Bignone”(10,64 km) at 13:32 and 16:04; and “Semoigo” (7,42km) at 15.45.. Leg one will be closed by the much awaited and very long night stage of Ronde spanning 45.62 Km at 22:54. The first racing day will be covered by three streaming appointments by ACI Sport available on the championship’s website at the stop checks of the two stages of “Bignone” and “Ronde”. Rai Sport 2 will also show the highlights of the race tomorrow evening from 22.40 to 23.10.
