Teemu Suninen at his third event of the Finnish Rally Championship, last Saturday.
Suninen, 21, a young talent, had his first official contact with a car Super 2000 version in an extreme and tough rally. Skoda Fabia S2000 car is property of Flying Finn, Toni Gardemeister, manager of TGS Team and responsible for car’s maintenance during the freezing day in Finland.
Rally’s final stage was the fastest under Suninen’s driving, who seemed fairly satisfied with his performance although doesn’t believe his race was decisive – there’s still a lot of margins to improve his driving on this ground conditions.
“We finished really well and the best time we got in the sixth stage gave us confidence to keep improving as people say starting to limber the course up. Drive this car is sensational and still there’s a big improvement margin. This first race in a car with these features and using the all-wheel drive for the first time revealed a lot of things that need to get better. The sensations in the head and the eyes need to get used to the movements this Czech vehicle offers, to say the least,” commented Suninen analyzing the competition at Mikkeli, content to have finished Vaakuna Rally.
Teemu Suninen and Mikko Markkula his transcendental co-driver were excited by Teemu’s performance arriving in third place. Scandinavian Juha Salo with his new Peugeot 208 T16 R5 won the rally with 26.3 seconds over the professional Ari Vihavainen, who surpassed Suninen in the second place by 5.6 seconds. Cold weather complicated the driving situations at Mikkeli and in some stretches the rain made the road’s state very changeable.
“This event was rather similar to Sweden Rally as a training for the next few years. Our pace was pretty good and even sometimes simple and fast – without passing the logical limit we had. So, in the end, it was no surprise we came back to carry out the goal to reach the finish line,” concluded Mikko Markkula about his co-driving experience.
Next event for Suninen/Markkula will be in two weeks at Seinäjoki driving a TGS Team’s SKODA Fabia S2000 car, for the third round of the Finnish Rally Championship (FRC) 2015.
