An unusual outing for the World Champion – Sébastien Ogier and the Volkswagen Polo R WRC will face a very special challenge on the ZDF show “Wetten, dass…?” (“You Bet”) on Saturday evening. Sébastien Ogier will take on Jakob Vöckler (21) from Munich on the very last episode of the hugely popular Saturday night show. The trainee sports teacher has bet that he can be quicker than the World Rally Champion over a unique special stage. The outside challenge will be presented by comedian Olli Dittrich.
“The bet itself is still top secret,” said Sébastien Ogier. “However, it is definitely worth tuning in, as it is going to be spectacular. The appearance on the final ‘Wetten, dass…?’ show is obviously a great opportunity to show an audience of millions just how exciting rallying can be, and to show what the drivers and technology are capable of. Plus, it is going to be great fun. I am really looking forward to it.”
The programme “Wetten, dass..?” has been broadcast live for 33 years, during which time it has thrilled generations of viewers. This Saturday, 13th December at 20:15, the entertainment classic bids farewell to the world of show business. The 215th and final programme will be filmed in Nuremberg and presented by Markus Lanz.
This is not the first time the Volkswagen Motorsport team has appeared on “Wetten, dass..?”. In December 2005, works driver at the time Jutta Kleinschmidt took on a horse and carriage at the wheel of a Race Touareg, which went on to win the Dakar Rally. The winner back then: the horsepower from Wolfsburg.
This year, the Volkswagen works team has kept rally fans around the world on the edge of their seats with new benchmarks – 12 wins from 13 rallies is a new WRC record – and the thrilling duel between World Champions Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (France) and their challengers Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (Finland). Andreas Mikkelsen, with fellow Norwegian Ola Fløene navigating from the passenger seat, finished third overall to round off a hugely successful season for the Volkswagen team, which also won the Manufacturers’ Championship by a commanding margin. The new World Championship season gets underway on 22nd January 2015 with the iconic Rally Monte Carlo in the principality of Monaco.
