PWRC A FULL 2014
DAY 2 RALLY ARGENTINA 2014 – MAX RENDINA
The first proper day of action in Argentina had a start which for Max Rendina was complicated due to technical issues, although in the second half of the leg the Italian driver was in top form and had a superb recovery.
During the second special stage in the morning, the turbocharger of the Rally Project Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X assisted by Ralliart Italy broke. In the previous stage, the car had shown troubles of this nature when it lost much of its power.
As a consequence, Rendina made it to the first visit to the Service Park, where his car was fixed, with a 24-minute penalty. Since then, the Roman who is co-driven by Mario Pizzuti began a remarkable work by which he would climb back from last in the Production class to third, a mere 5s from Chilean rival Ramón Torres (Mitsubishi).
The current leader of the championship is now two minutes and a half behind local man Juan Carlos Alonso (Mitsubishi), who is first of the group. This leg proved to be harder than expected, as shown by the many retirements that happened.
The turbo problem was a major delay and too much to give to other competitors. Luckily, the team did a great job and in the second loop I had the strength and motivation to recover, which I did by moving from last to third, as well as getting close again to Torres and Alonso with two more days to go. My target still is heading the FIA Production Cup.
There will be four special stages tomorrow, including the circuit that opened the event yesterday, even if this time it will be used to finish the leg rather than begin with it. Stage distance will be 85.19 kilometers and road sections 245.47, making a total of 330.66 kms., starting at 9:41 and returning to Carlos Paz at 19:38.
