Rendina starts Argentina Rally on top

DAY 1 RALLY ARGENTINA 2014 – MAX RENDINA
Rally Argentina started today in a sun shiny afternoon. A superspecial stage at Carlos Paz (Córdoba) was the event’s opener in which Max Rendina completed two laps around the 6,000-meter gravel track 5m17.3s.
The Italian drove his Rally Project Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X 6.9s faster than fellow countryman Gianluca Linari (Subaru Impreza) and 7.1s than local entrant Juan Carlos Alonso (Mitsubishi), heading the group of participants competing in the Production class of the World Rally Championship.
The circuit had some muddy areas and many spectators followed the action in a pleasant day more typical of spring time than autumn.
Yesterday, Rendina finished the recce and told that he enjoyed the two longest stages of the event and that the “El Cóndor” stage is truly a classic but probably not one that he particularly enjoys at the wheel of his Lancer.
The Roman was second in the Shakedown earlier today, 1.5s behind Alonso after two drives. In between that and SS1, he agreed with the team’s engineers what the set-up of his car will be like for the three days ahead in the schedule.
The rally is finally underway and, although today’s action was really short, it is good we started with an advantage of almost seven second over Linari, who was second after two laps around the track located near the Service Park. Regarding what comes next, I have to say that I like the two longer stages here. El Cóndor is well-known, but not exactly a place that I enjoy much as a driver. For the proper legs, we already know that our Mitsubishi’s set-up should be pretty much the same in two days and show a few changes for the other one.
Results Day 1
1-Max Rendina (Mitsubishi) 5m17.3s, 2-Gianluca Linari (Subaru) +6.9s, 3-Juan Carlos Alonso (Mitsubishi) +7.1s, 4-Augusto Bestard (Mitsubishi) +8.8s, 5-Ramón Torres (Mitsubishi) +12.2s.
