Breen: ERC 2014 here I come! Maybe Peugeot 208 T16 R5
Craig Breen completed his maiden FIA European Rally Championship campaign in Switzerland yesterday and said he was already looking ahead to the 2014 season.
Breen bagged his fifth podium of the year in his Peugeot Rally Academy 207 Super 2000 on the back of an incident-packed Rallye International du Valais alongside co-driver Lara Vanneste.
Although he was unable to score the 27 points needed to overhaul Bryan Bouffier for second place in the final standings, he increased his tally of stage wins to 23 and ensured he bookmarked the season with a top-three finish. “A podium was the aim, I set my sights high and to get back to the podium is very nice, a good way to finish the season after a tough event,” said Breen. “For sure third place is not what I came here for or hoped for before the rally. It’s not an improvement from the beginning of the season, I’ve been finishing in second and third places a lot in the first half so to finish in third here is not the best result. But taking everything into account it’s not so bad. Now I can’t wait for the first rally of next year and getting behind the wheel of the 208 T16, it will be a dream come true for me.”
The 2014 ERC season begins in Austria with the 31 Int. Jännerrallye, Oberösterreich from 3-5 January followed by Rally Liepāja in Latvia from 31 January-2 February*.
